The EGY3.0 Project started as of January 01, 2011. We will be focusing on a small section of the Cairo governorate to start with as a pilot project.
With your help we can minimize the time for data collection. So, become a member and be one of the co-founders of the project!

It actually represent my third attempt to work on this project since early 2002!
The first attempt has started in early 2002 by collecting information about the streets and street mapping of Cairo. I was actually planning to use such data in an online interface to help Cairo residence to find their way around Cairo easily! Unfortunately, I've found the EGYMAPS website which actually does what I was planning to do, so.... I gave up the idea! By late 2005, I had the chance to live in the USA and I have found that such maps can be used with GPS devices. The thing that was not available in Egypt at that time. My idea came to an end when I realized that GPS devices are prohibited in Egypt and requires special permission to be used on the ground! From late 2005 until early 2010 I've learned a lot about street mapping, how to fix most of the issues regarding it and how to link it to the economy of the country. After the legalization of the GPS devices in early 2009 lots of GPS devices and maps started to invade Egypt. The only problem with such maps is that it is not routable up-to parcel (building) level. You can use it just to go from one street to another or from one land mark to another!
In January 2011 I decided to go with the project again, for the third time, and from a different prospective. My main target now is not to make a digital street map that is routable up-to a parcel (building) level... it just goes a lot beyond that! My main goal is to bring the economy of the country up by its people... people like you, people like me, kids, youths and grownups! THE STREET MAP IS JUST A STEP!
